Find a new grace and beauty in your yoga practice

Body, mind and spirit. Yoga is a practice that leads us to wholeness and balance, both physically and emotionally.

Bringing the AT to your yoga practice allows you to move into poses without exciting the stretch reflex which puts ligament tissue under excessive strain. With an increased body awareness you will never push your body too far and risk injury.

  • Each one of us has a unique body shape and structure and the differences are not only on the surface. Our internal structures vary too - the shape, thickness and length of our bones change from one person to the next. Knowledge of your individual structure and movement patterns will help you get the best out of each pose.

  • Flexibility - yes but not at any price.

The majority of injuries sustained through yoga practice are due to excessive push or pull, in other words ‘trying too hard’. Alexander called this ‘end-gaining’ and developed a practical way to stay with the process rather than the desired end result of any movement.

  • Breathing

Alexander work allows you to free your breath by reinstating natural coordination. Not through exercises but a by-product of better grace, poise, ease and mindfulness.

  • Hypermobilty (JHS)

Some of us are naturally flexible and as such often take up yoga and dance. What is less enviable is that loose connective tissue can easily be overstretched causing sprains and joint pain. With enhanced proprioceptive awareness and overall coordination from Alexander Technique you can use your yoga practice to build stability in the joints and maintain your flexibility.

When you’re not wasting energy fighting yourself, you can focus on the posture at hand and allow the energy to flow through you. Yoga practiced in this way can be wonderfully exhilarating.
